SEARCH
Where is it?
To use the search facility, you can either use the Quick Search box found at the top of every page of the site or you can click on the Search page from the dropdown menu for each bookshop.
How does the QUICK search work?
You can quick search in a number of ways.
BY AUTHOR
If you know the author of the book, enter the surname in the search box. Choose author from the drop down menu in the next box and click the GO button. The Search will find it for you
BY TITLE
If you know the title, enter it or part of it in the search box, choose Title from the drop down menu and click GO
BY KEYWORD
If you're not sure, but you know what the book is about, you can select the 'Keyword' search. Enter the subject you wish to view books about and click GO
BY ISBN
If you know the ISBN number of the book you can search on this. Just enter the number in the search box, choose ISBN from the drop down menu and click GO
Why can't I find what I'm looking for?
There could be a number of different reasons why you can't find the book or sort of books you're looking for. Here are a few possibilities:
SPELLING
Unfortunately spelling is very important when it comes to searching databases, as one wrong letter will mean you won't find what you're looking for. If you're not sure of the spelling, try using a ? for the letter or letters you're doubtful about. (e.g. barc?lona) James is this included in the search facility
BOOK NOT IN THE DATABASE
The database contains information on all relevant UK available titles for each bookshop from 3 months in advance of publication until the books go out of print, and it is updated every day. If you can't find a specific book and you're sure you have used some of the exact words in the title, it's possible that the book may not be in the database. Bookshop Search Pages
Each bookshop has its own search page where you can search:
By author
By title
By ISBN
By keyword
The procedure is the same as for the quick search but you can also search using a combination such as author and title.
Open University Students can search by OU Set Texts, course units and recommended reading on the bookshop search page. There is also a special facility in the OU and Distance Learning bookshop on the Browse page where you can search by course code and all the set books for a particular course will be displayed.
Browse
Each bookshop has its own BROWSE page where you can look for books by subject area. This is useful if you are not sure of the subject area for a keyword search
